Hi, I’m Rina - founder of the London Braai Company.
I was born in the vibrant city of Durban, South Africa, where food isn’t just something we eat — it’s how we connect, celebrate, and show love.
Growing up, I was surrounded by the incredible mix of flavours that make Durban so special. My dad’s Indian side of the family ran a catering business, cooking up giant pots of fragrant biryani for weddings and celebrations. Meanwhile, my mum and her nine sisters were always hosting a braai — every weekend, every holiday, or sometimes just because. Braaiing wasn’t an occasion; it was a way of life.
By the time I was nine, I was obsessed with the fire and flavour of a good braai. I used to beg my dad every Friday to let me take over the grill! eventually, he gave in. From then on, I became the designated braai master at every gathering, proudly cooking up ribs, chops, and steak while everyone else relaxed.
When I moved to the UK, I carried that love of braaiing with me. I met my husband, Paul, and our very first date was a BBQ in the snow — his way of impressing me (and it worked!).
The London Braai Company was born from that passion — a reminder that braaing is more than food; it’s community, culture, and home. It’s a South African tradition we carry with us wherever we go, connecting people through the warmth of the fire and the joy of great food.
